Our Experience

The TakingControl Family Financial Action Plan™ was developed by the research and development team of OneSource Educational Development Corporation (“OneSource”) which is comprised of individuals from academia, accounting and finance, the legal community, credit industry, mortgage industry, banking, insurance, technology, marketing, and design.

Our team has a 10 year track record of developing “proven” financial education materials, programs, and management systems which have educated hundreds of thousands of single adults, parents, seniors, and students across the United States.

Below are a few samples of the proven programs that we have successfully launched on a national level.

TakingControl Debtor Education Program™

TakingControl Debtor Education Program™ Book

The TakingControl Debtor Education Program™ was approved on January 18, 2006 by the Department of Justice and the Executive Office for United States Trustees (EOUST) in 48 states as a 2-hour personal financial management instructional course under the new Bankruptcy Code that went into effect October 17, 2005. This approved course is for classroom study, telephone study, and Internet study.

The 12-chapter instructional course incorporates the concepts and ideas of sound financial knowledge to help debtors develop the skills needed to change their attitude about all aspects of money and improve their decision-making skills to become knowledgeable consumers in the area of savings, investing, use of credit, and overall money management.

The approved course has educated thousands of individual debtors throughout 48 states for their post-discharge bankruptcy requirement.

Student Financial Lab Program™

Student Financial Lab™ Book

Students in today's world are faced with making many financial decisions on their own; often for the first time. Most students lack the knowledge and skills to make those decisions effectively. That's why the average college student graduates with over $4,000 in consumer debt and carries several credit cards.

The Student Financial Lab™ is an interactive web-based 12-chapter financial life skills program. The program is designed to help students develop a mature understanding of financial topics so they can make responsible financial decisions…not just while in school, but for the rest of their lives.

Many state community colleges throughout the country have adopted this program to help educate freshman students as they enter college life. The program educates thousands of students each semester.

DebtGuard Financial Literacy Program™

The DebtGuard Financial Literacy Program™ is a 12-chapter self-study financial literacy course on money, debt, and credit. The course was created to help credit counseling and debt management clients further understand their personal finances, how to manage them in their everyday lives, as well as learn how to modify their financial behavior so they can make better financial decisions in the future.

The course was used and endorsed by over 40 national IRS-approved 501(c)3 nonprofit credit counseling agencies across the country which educated thousands of clients and consumers using our program. These IRS-approved agencies also used the course to help satisfy their educational requirements, mission, activities, and reporting to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), state regulators, and other governmental agencies in order to help protect their 501(c)3 tax exempt status.

On February 13, 2004, the contents, study materials, and self-directed testing within the course were reviewed by (and reflect revisions made by) Jeffery S. Tenenbaum, partner, Venable LLP, which has significant experience with advising educational and other organizations that are recognized as exempt from federal income tax under Section 501(c)3 of the Internal Revenue Code.

DirectConnect Reverse Mortgage Counseling Services™

The DirectConnect Reverse Mortgage Counseling Services™ (DirectConnect) management system was created as a one-stop solution that unites over 5,000 HUD-approved reverse mortgage lenders and loan officers, 214 HUD-approved counseling agency locations with over 400 counselors and over 8,000 seniors together each month in an effort to satisfy all mandatory counseling requirements by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for Home Equity Conversion Mortgage (HECM) loans as well as issue completion certificates to seniors and lenders.

The DirectConnect management system is the exclusive technology provider to the National Housing Counseling Association (NHCA) and their members. Over 400 HECM certified housing counselors utilize the DirectConnect System to manage over 8,000 incoming counseling requests from seniors and lenders, counselor training, as well as billing of counseling fees to seniors each month. Since its inception in 2006, the DirectConnect system has processed and facilitated over 200,000 counseling requests for seniors nationwide.

The DirectConnect management system meets all requirements to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) HECM counseling protocol including procedures and policies.
